Former India cricketer Suresh Raina on Thursday wished Ravindra Jadeja the best after the India all-rounder was appointed as the captain of Chennai Super Kings for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. In an unforeseen decision, MS Dhoni decided to quit CSK captaincy after being at the helm since the inaugural edition of the IPL and passed on the baton to Jadeja.
Suresh Raina, who had led CSK in the absence of MS Dhoni in the past, said there is no one better than Ravindra Jadeja to take over the reins at CSK. Raina, who had played for CSK until 2021, went unsold at the IPL 2022 mega auction after having not been retained by CSK.
Raina, who was dearly called ‘Chinna Thala’ by CSK fans, expressed confidence that Jadeja will live up to all the expectations as CSK captain.
Notably, Jadeja was the highest-paid player by CSK among their 4 retentions as the all-rounder was paid Rs 16 crore while Dhoni took home Rs 12 crore.
“Absolutely thrilled for my brother. I can’t think of anyone better to take over the reins of a franchise we both had grown up in. All the best @imjadeja . It’s an exciting phase and I’m sure you will live up to all the expectations and love,” Raina said in a social media post.

TIME TO GROOM JADEJA
MS Dhoni has timed his decision well, once again, as he passes on the baton to Jadeja who is in the prime form of his career. The India all-rounder will be groomed under Dhoni’s watch, with CSK confirming that the World Cup-winning former captain will continue to represent the franchise this season and in the near future.
“MS Dhoni has decided to hand over the leadership of Chennai Super Kings and picked Ravindra Jadeja to lead the team. Jadeja, who has been an integral part of Chennai Super Kings since 2012, will only be the third player to lead CSK. Dhoni will continue to represent Chennai Super Kings this season and beyond,” CSK said in a statement.
Notably, Dhoni had given up gave the India captaincy in limited-overs as early as 2017 and helped groom Virat Kohli for the 2019 World Cup. Dhoni continued to play as a wicketkeeper-batter for India until he announced his retirement in 2020.
Chennai Super Kings begin their campaign on March 26, taking on Kolkata Knight Riders in the opening match of the season in Mumbai.
